The Story of the Drowned Countess

In 1778, a Spanish ship carrying nobles and brides began its wedding voyage. A violent storm swallowed its route, while a mysterious sea fog erased every direction. The ship eventually sank into the deep and remained trapped beneath the fog forever.

Centuries later, whenever moonlight touches the sea, women in ancient gowns are said to appear upon its shattered deck. The ocean may have taken their lives, but it could never take away their elegance.

Inspired by classical European mourning dress and the grand silhouettes of the 18th century, the Drowned Countess skirt combines deep purple velvet, dark lace and faded grey tones to create the beauty of a noblewoman lost beneath the sea.

The design uses a detachable, layered construction to recreate a dramatic historical silhouette without requiring numerous traditional undergarments.

• The long bottom skirt features purple patterned fabric, a contrasting grey front panel and a slightly extended back hem.
• The curtain overskirt creates an ornate, palace-like draped effect with black lace, side bows and long tassels.
• The separate petticoat support adds architectural volume and helps form the grand Countess silhouette.

The three pieces can be layered together for the complete ceremonial look or styled separately for different gothic and historical outfits.
